My Personal Web site History

I have had a fascination with creating web sites for a long time. In fact, it started when the internet became widely accessible. Especially when my family first subscribed to an internet service provider.  I used to visit a web site (wbs.net) where one could actually chat online with your web browser.  No AOL subscription or special software required.  I frequently visited the Star Wars Cantina chat room and did mild Star Wars role playing there.  I became interested in creating a Star Wars related web site and subsequently did at the address http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Zone/7503 ( I would later delete the account).

My high school required me to do a graduation project.  As an active Boy Scout I thought about doing a flag retirement ceremony by fire.  The ceremony itself would not meet the hours needed to fulfill the requirement.  My friend Nick and I were working on the project together and decided to create a web site http://www.geocities.com/flagproject2/ on the subject.

For a while, I was the owner of the Great Movie Webring http://www.geocities.com/9200 hosted by webring.org.  Unfortunately, it never really worked the way I hoped it would.  Eventually someone else took over, without my permission, mais c’est la vie.

In college, I had a hankering to have my own domain name.  So I secured the domain name mongorille.com in April of 2002.  In September 2002 I bought a web hosting plan.  By October, I published mongorille.com for the first time.  While I was in college, I started doing research on Joseph Priestley and as part of my research, I created the web site JosephPristley.org.  When I was able to secure the domain name josephpriestley.com, I renamed the site Joseph Priestley Online.

Eventually MonGorille.com had several sub web sites  One of which was my own personal site.  When my brother secured the domain name danielharris.net, I decided to acquire the name andrewharris.org.  While I could not use it as an independent domain name, I had it parked on mongorille.com.

In 2005, I switched web site hosting companies to Lypha.  I can now independently host sites. On December 28, 2005, I married my life partner.  In turn, I have decided to make my personal page a sub domain of our new family site Burd-Harris.com.  I have not renewed the domain andrewharris.org.
